The community of la Piedra requests that the Dominican Government reopen their only medical health

Guanín Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization, duly incorporated by Decree No. 384-02, dated May 15, 2002, and adapted by Law 122-05, resolution IONG024-2015, RNC Nº430-02679-4. Registered in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, and Germany, IRS session (46-5490061). For the last twenty years of existence. We have served our community in six different goals and pyramids: Education, Community Healthcare, Infrastructure, Gender Equality, Economic Opportunity, and Community Development.

This medical health center, (UNAP La Piedra), authorized by the Ministry of Public Health, license No. 03201A05637, has stopped giving free health services to more than 1,170 families in the community of La Piedra and its surroundings, since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a community that has been forgotten by all the governments, in all its daily aspects, since it is now without a health center, purified water, decent roads, etc. This community is in total abandonment.

The community of La Piedra, which belongs to the municipality of La Caleta and San Antonio de Guerra, has asked the Central Government to reopen their only medical health center, which has stopped operating since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Guanín Foundation is the only institution that has looked after this community. In the last 15 years, Guanin has built a medical health center (UNAP La Piedra) and other facilities which were constructed by the foundation’s own resources (the only medical health center that the community has), paying the doctor, nurses, and health promoters, and serving a population of 1,300 patients. Guanin has made those facilities available to the Ministry of Public Health.

On August 28, 2018, there was a meeting with the directors of UNAP, hospitals, and community leaders in the area of Boca Chica, with Mr. Chupany, to discuss their needs and the deterioration of health in our communities. The promises were forgotten. One of the most fruitful steps was the offer to sign an agreement between the Ministry of Public Health and the Guanin Foundation, a process that was paralyzed by the priority given to the Covid-19 pandemic. We have asked Dr. Lama to resume the project, as we are in the final phase, in order to resume providing the free health service to our community of La Piedra and its surroundings.

The Guanin Foundation requests the appointment of the physicians, nurses, and health promoters for the good functioning of UNAP La Piedra, its building and facilities, which we have put in the Public Health Ministry’s hands. At the same time, we ask our Dominican President Luis Abinader to come to our rescue. We are 25 minutes north of the International Airport of the Americas.
